Student Training Opportunities through Tiny Home Construction

December 04, 2017

Olivet School of Engineering and Architecture (OSEA) are looking into the potential of tiny home’s impact on training students and benefits for missions. Tiny homes are built living spaces of approximately 1,000 sq. feet, ushering in new concepts of living space design and construction. OSEA sees an opportunity to utilize the concept of tiny homes as a means of giving students hands on living space design and construction experience.

The limitations on square footage will challenge and stretch each student’s creativity in how to layout a living space. Based on the design, students will then work with consult with a mentor then collaborate with a team to build out their designs. OSEA believes assembling a tiny home construction program will offer many opportunities for students to pickup trade skills while honing their design thinking and gain hands-on experience in construction.
